Holes? Holes!

In everyday life, I often notice stains, cracks, and holes on walls. When I find myself staring into these openings, I begin to imagine whether they might lead to another space. This idea of “opening up one space within another” became the starting point of the project.

Through observation, memory, and collecting, I seek out openings that evoke a sense of “hidden worlds”: airplane windows, where the sky and clouds beyond seem to lead to unknown environments; the broken bricks and exposed steel at construction sites, which may serve as homes for smaller forms of life; and holes in lawns and soil, which carry invisible worlds and, in my imagination, become places where the souls of departed pets reside.

To express the imagery of holes, I created a series of tunnel books with layered structures, guiding viewers to peer into cracks and openings that appear ordinary or easily overlooked in daily life, and to discover the scenes concealed within them.

This work invites viewers to slow down their gaze and, through visual art, re-imagine and re-see the seemingly “boring” details of everyday life.
